The Communications and Station Relations department is responsible for the promotion of WLIW productions and presentations to local and national media and station staff at the 355 PBS member stations. Our department goals are to secure earned media placements to promote viewer tune-in to WLIW21 and other PBS stations airing our productions, and to encourage PBS stations to schedule our productions and use them in their outreach.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The intern's duties would include writing press releases and program highlights, setting up and maintaining media lists in Excel, follow-up phone calls with media, community organizations and PBS station staff, maintaining press clip files, assist on general publicity mailings and email campaigns for local and national programming, internet research for grassroots outreach outlets and program materials, website content updates, assist with writing and proofreading WLIW21 Members Guide. The intern will be expected to meet deadlines, look over their work before handing in an assignment, retain a professional attitude and ask questions if an assignment is not clearly understood. Specific results will vary according to assignment.

This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in Communications, Public Relations or Marketing. The intern will get hands-on experience in a small department, and will probably get to do more than they would in many other office settings learning their craft.

They must be proficient with Excel, Word and basic Microsoft Office applications, comfortable on the phone and researching on the internet. Preferred candidates are students majoring in Communication, Public Relations or Marketing.
